Today, Rab explained to us the parts of an
essay in detail. I think the 5As are a great and easy way to memorize the
requirements of an academic essay. Although I already learned all of today’s
material in the start-up program, it was good to refresh my memory since this
content is extremely relevant to our upcoming book review and also the extended
essay which we are going to tackle this term. Until high school, I admit that I
wrote essays that fulfilled all the given requirements so I could earn a good
grade; however, when Rab said teachers get bored reading students’ papers if
they all start with “My essay is going to be about …”, it made me think that
when I construct my essay, I should primarily concentrate on entertaining my
readers, who actually take some of their time to read my writing. My goal for
the book review is to write a piece that others will find worth reading.
For the last fifteen minutes of class, we
did a European psychology test and here are my results:
Orange: vivacious, embracing, warm, soft,
savouring
Dog: honest, cute friendly, fluffy,
endearing
Wave: everlasting, peaceful, rhythmic,
enjoyable
White Room: anxious, confined, solitary,
forgotten
I admit that it seems quite accurate!
