Today, we learned how make surveys on Google, and it was amazing
how quick the process is! What’s great about it is that the format is all in
there, so no need to insert boxes and lines etc. In the class before ELA class,
I am working on a group project and was thinking of doing a survey, so this class
came at a good time. I still have to get used to using all the Google tools,
however. For example, I always get mixed up with Google Drive and Google Group
and always end up opening so many unnecessary tabs.
This sharing of documents and sources is a new thing to me.
I always preferred to do essays alone because I was embarrassed to show it to
others (unless it was the teacher) and felt bad for taking away some of my
classmates’ time when they were busy typing away their own. However, I decided
to ask two of my classmates to peer-edit my book review for me, and it was very
useful. They pointed out mistakes and confusing parts that I was completely
blind to that I was just glad that I had asked them edit my essay before it
went to Rab! Five years ago, I probably would have agreed that sharing ideas
online for an in-class essay test is somewhat like cheating, but now I feel
like the significance of writing essays is not the brilliance of the ideas, but
how the ideas are organized and presented. I hope I can make use of this
sharing in many ways.
