LLA class in the mac room



Today, our lovely sweaters arrived! Thanks to Haruka for bringing it all the way to school with her big, pink suitcaseJ Though, the first thing Rab showed us was the synchronization of the metronomes and the demerits of it, which was what we were exactly doing wearing the same sweatshirts (although they are different sizes). I was a little surprised to hear that some teachers at ICU do not appreciate teachers creating their own unique curriculum instead of sticking to the standard one. I had been thinking that ELA teachers at ICU were all creative with their classes, and all differ significantly from one another, except that they use the same reading materials. This makes me more curious to visit other ELA classes.

It was really good to know about the segmentation theory. I always tried my best to stay concentrated on people’s presentation and resist the urge to reach my phone or continue my unfinished homework because I wouldn’t feel so great if people did that during my presentation. However, most of the time I was daydreaming before I know it. So good to know that this isn’t entirely my fault! Every so often, I used to have “Christianity lectures” in my high school where the school invited guest speakers to talk about their profession, life etc. The content of every presentation was profound and touching, but not once did I stay concentrated in the whole lecture, and I always felt bad for the guest speakers. Most of the presentation was a talk and slideshow format. It is a waste that the presenters are losing the attention of the audience just because of the way it is presented, and if they changed the format slightly, I think they would be more successful in keeping the students awake.

Zotero. When Rab showed us the ISBN code today, I thought “I wish I knew that when I did my book review!” because I had a hard time finding the place of publication since one book often contained multiple locations. So it was good to know about it. Today, Rab also showed us many resources we can use in our research such as Mediaed, youtube ed, and ITunesU, and that opened up more opportunities for me to find useful sources. They can also be used not just for research papers but also for ordinary use, such as for your own interests. One thing I didn’t understand in zotero today was the Tags and Related buttons. Is there a difference between the two or do they function similarly?
